Flexible Insulation Covers

Whereas before the industry standard would be to provide mineral fibre insulation with sheet metal cladding for items such as valves, flanges etc. now more and more often flexible insulation covers are being specified by our clients and the end user, the reasons for this are as follows:

  • Reduced thermal conductivity in comparison to metal cladding.
  • More cost effective to both purchase and install.
  • Offers significantly better protection against mechanical damage.
  • Better thermal properties
It has always been difficult to manufacture sheet metal cladding to suit unusual or irregular shapes whilst at the same time ensuring the integrity of the underlying insulation. These problems are easily overcome with flexible insulation covers which offer a snug fit every time.
  • Less chance of water ingress
Flexible insulation covers are manufactured as a sealed item which, when silicone glass cloth is used, prevents water ingress into the insulation material and also reduces the risk of maintenance staff being exposed to irritable insulation fibres.
  • Easier to remove and reinstall
The way in which flexible covers are manufactured enables a quick and simple installation or removal. This prevents the need for a trained insulation engineer to be present during regular maintenance works. Where sheet metal cladding is installed, it is often the case, maintenance personnel remove the insulation and cladding to gain access to the equipment. This is then either incorrectly installed or left sat on the floor gathering dust. Besides the obvious risk of a trip hazard this also results in an increased risk of:
    • Burns to people coming into contact with the equipment (if the insulation is for heat conservation / personnel protection)
    • The contents of the equipment freezing (if the insulation is for frost protection)

We fabricate both thermal and acoustic flexible insulation products from numerous different fabrics, threads, fastenings and insulation materials to suit a wide variety of applications, not only valve and flange covers but also:

  • Duct / boiler expansion joints
  • IBC heater covers with integrated heat tracing
  • Turbine insulation covers
  • Exhaust covers

If you a have particular project where you feel these products may prove advantageous we would be happy to discuss your requirements.
