This FGD Project at Eggborough Power Station, near Goole, was constructed to reduce the coal fired boiler emissions and bring it in line with current EU Emission Targets.
We were awarded this contract, by FLS Miljo a/s, based upon our ongoing performance on the West Burton FGD project. Our scope included insulation, scaffolding and painting services to the 7mtr. diameter flue ducts, absorber and associated piping. In addition to this we were also contracted to design and install the acoustic insulation to the booster fans to meet with our Client's stringent noise pollution obligations.
All of our works were completed on time, within budget and a written commendation was received from FLS Miljo's Project Manager which thanked our Company for its efforts and high quality workmanship.

Thermal & Acoustic Insulation of Fans
| |
| |
For more than 10 years Powertherm has been designing and installing thermal and acoustic insulation systems for several of the UK's major industrial fan manufacturers, these works are carried out either on site or within our fabrication facility.
Each fan has its own bespoke specification, and when arriving at this specification consideration is given to the following:
| |
Operating Conditions
- What will be its maximum operating temperature?
- When running what will be the expected decibel output?
- What will be the minimum and maximum ambient temperature?
| |
Required Performance
- For personnel protection, what does the outside cladding temperature need to be?
- For acoustic reasons, what decibel reduction is required?
- For heat conservation, what is an acceptable heat loss?
| |
Environment
- Where will the equipment be sited and how will this impact on the insulation system?
| |
| |
On a number of occasions, to prevent condensation / frost forming or for temperature maintenance purposes, we are also requested to install electrical trace heating to the fan skin casing. Having the ability and expertise to provide both insulation and trace heating services in house gives our clients all the benefits and convenience from purchasing from a single source.
Due to the nature of the fan manufacturing industry a fast turnaround is often required and ,to cater for this, we have adapted our processes and infrastructure to suit; typically an order can be completed and ready for dispatch within 3 days.
