Whenever the word asbestos is mentioned it often strikes fear into the heart of most people. Exposure to asbestos can result in serious lung issues which, in turn, leads to a significant reduction in quality and length of life for those affected. As well as the obvious health risk to the individual, current guidelines and legislation now place a great deal of responsibility on the part of employers and senior managers; failure to comply can result in heavy fines, criminal convictions and possible custodial sentences. Pleading ignorance is no longer a valid defence.
All of these things can cause worry and concern but this shouldn’t be further compounded when you’re considering using the services of a removal contractor. Very often we come across the assumption that asbestos removal contracting companies will quite literally attend site, upset working patterns, and charge a considerable amount of money to leave behind a hole where the asbestos was (which you’ve now got to replace with a suitable alternative material).
This isn’t how it works with Powertherm, as a contractor which is licensed by the Health & Safety Executive to remove all forms of asbestos containing material we can also provide guidance and assistance to help you understand your duties to manage asbestos. We can adjust our working pattern to suit your requirements and offer assistance in sourcing a suitable replacement for the asbestos.
Something many people fail to understand when asbestos has been discovered is that it does not necessarily need removing, obviously this is more preferable because the problem will be completely eliminated, but it is possible in some instances to encapsulate the asbestos. Other times it may not even present a significant risk and all that is required is for the material to be identified and recorded within a register. As you would expect both of these procedures provide a considerable saving over a complete removal.
There are many factors to consider before arriving at a conclusion and the ability to understand a problem only comes with experience; we’re more than willing to provide this experience and knowledge to help ease your worries.
We’re happy to discuss whatever requirements you may have, no project is too small and very few are too big (previously completed projects have sales values in excess of GBP £2.5M).
